A Physician’s Point of View
|
I'm now convinced that the primary cause of both back and neck pain comes from the joints of the spine; And that this causes muscles to secondarily respond by tightening up and protectively splinting the injured spine, producing a secondary muscular discomfort and pain. This program is not pain management. It’s not about covering up the underlying problem with pain medication and temporarily suppressing the symptoms (pain) that cries out that “something is wrong.” It’s about fixing the specific underlying problems, and experiencing long term pain relief, normal function, and a normal life without the need for medication! At Sibley Spine, we focus on identifying and effectively treating the specific underlying root problem - not just covering up the symptoms with medication. Our advanced systems and state-of-art technology allows them, utilizing spinal isolation technique, to carefully deliver precisely calculated healing forces of progressive resistive dynamic resistance and motion to the injured areas of the spine. This stimulates tissue, disc and joint cartilage growth and repair. Designated supplements secondarily supply some of the necessary building blocks to enhance healing.Function continues to improve as the discs and cartilage joints of the spine (facets) continue to heal, allowing pain to progressively diminish. The surrounding muscles can now relax and secondary muscular pain improves as well. As pain is alleviated, function is allowed to improve. During each brief treatment, your body's healing response is guided by custom treatment protocols that are individually designed for your unique and specific problems. Our highly trained expert staff works closely with a board certified, double fellowshipped orthopedic surgeon who specializes in Disorders of the Spine, and sub-specializes in spinal diagnostics and advanced non-surgicalorthopedic treatment approaches.
Why many conventional non-surgical treatments often fail
Medication, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture and other modalities do not address the source of back and neck pain, located in the joints of the spine - the discs and facet joints. This is often the case even with traditional therapy as well, which focuses on the muscles and soft tissues around the spine.
The underlying root problem is most often a joint or orthopaedic problem, and requires an orthopaedic solution.
Most non-operative spine treatment today continues to focus primarily on muscles and soft tissues, which may account for their lack of success.
The Orthopedic approach to Back & Neck Pain
At Sibley Spine, the focus is on the primary source of pain and dysfunction, the discs and facet joints of the spine. The secondary discomfort and pain from the muscles usually subsides once the spinal joint problems are resolved.
Our treatment program utilizes the most advanced diagnostic systems available. Custom Orthopedic treatment protocols are designed specifically for each patient, based on the particular spinal problems present. Comprehensive treatment systems utilizing proprietary protocols, isolation technique, advanced equipment, carefully calculated progressive resistive kinetic activity and other features is used to achieve the desired goal.
The goal at Sibley Spine is to achieve a pain free status without the need for medication, with normal – even athletic - function and activity, and on a long term, stable basis, non-surgically. The results of cases requiring surgery can often be significantly enhanced.
People with Back and Neck Pain
96% are not candidates for surgery. What about these people, many of whom have not gotten better with traditional non-surgical treatment?
3-4 % of patients are candidates for surgery, some of whom may be candidates for a non-surgical, orthopedic treatment program.
